Nestled between the steep mountains and a vast ocean, lies a place of healing which has since the beginning of time welcomed weary travelers from the far distances of Japan. It’s a place where the gentle Gods of nature watched over the people as they lived in relationship to the Earth, their community and themselves. This place is my hometown of Kumano.
I was born and raised in this land of rich history. Having left at a young age, I return to Kumano with gratitude and appreciation.
This art piece, “Kumano” pays homage to my hometown. It’s based on the ancient language of “Katakamuna”, which combines characters with sound and meaning. “Katakamuna” is said to have originated during the Paleolithic Period in Japan.
This is one piece in my “Katakamuna Art” collection which will be on exhibit during the month of November, 2018 in Kumano. As part of the “くまの・いいおはからい祭り”, my art will be on display at “Couscous” restaurant. For more information on the exhibit or art purchase, please contact me.
